SCAMPER (23-5-2008 Friday) (26-5-2008 Monday)

SCAMPER

Scene Map:

Characters: Windrider, Moon Shadow, Miss Whitlaw, Wright brothers

Setting: Windrider and Moon Shadow were in Miss Whitlaw’s home

How the scene begins: Windrider wanted to make an aeroplane but he needed some information. Moon Shadow helped his father to ask Miss Whitlaw to help them to write the letter to the Wright brothers. They knew Wright brothers knew how to make an aeroplane.

How the scene ends: Wright brothers sent some information about how to make an aeroplane. Windrider was success to make an aeroplane.

Problem: Wrindrider wanted to make an aeroplane but he did not have any information.

Substitute:
What did you think would have happened if Windrider discovered a fat Miss Whitlaw instead of the thin Miss Whitlaw?

I think Windrider would have screamed and scared to walk with Miss Whitlaw.

Modify:
What would have happened if the weight of Miss Whitlaw was equal to the weight of thirty of Moon Shadow?

I think while Miss Whitlaw walked to Moon Shadow’s sit, there would have a short shake like an earthquake.

Rearrange:
What would have happened if Windrifer, Moon Shadow and Miss Whitlaw dead before Wright brothers were born?

I think Windrider would not make an aeroplane and Wright brothers might have interest to make knit.

Rewritten Scene:
Moon Shadow screamed because Miss Whitlaw was fatter than the last time. Moon Shadow asked Miss Whitlaw if she could help him to write a letter. Miss Whitlaw was very fat, her tummy was bigger than a big stone. She should have the weight about thirty of Moon Shadow. She walked to moon Shadow’s sit. And there had a short shake like an earthquake. “ Why, of course, Moon Shadow. To whom are you writing?” “To the Wright brothers who were the aeronauts.” Miss Whitlaw seemed impressed and said that she had heard their exploits before but she did not know it was true or not. And asked Moon Shadow why he wanted to write to them.

“My father,” I began cautiously, “he want fly like Wright brothers.” Miss Whitlaw put a fat hand to her mouth. “Oh, my, Isn’t that rather dangerous?”

Moon shrugged. “Not if he know how.”
“Does he?”
“Yes and no,” Moon said. He did not think fat Miss Whitlaw could be told about the dream. “ But he need facts, numbers, t obuild aeroplane.”

“Robin told me he made such marvelous glider models, but I had no idea it was only a preliminary. To have such ambition!” fat Miss Whitlaw shook her big head in admiration- and Moon Shadow thought also a litter anxiously.

Moon Shadow asked Miss Whitlaw to help him to write to them. The fat Miss Whitlaw promised him and ask him their address with a slow sound. When she saw Moon Shadow’s puzzled look, she explained the demon’s postal system. “I know village …no…the town they live in, and …and province…non, state.”

“Well,” fat Miss Whitlaw said, “it might get though with just that.” With her help, Moon Shadow finally wrote something like this:

To the honorable Wrights:
This to inform you that /I am a boy of eleven. I have greatly admired your feats of daring. My father wants to fly too. Can you help him? We need to know howe to shape the propellers. We need to know how big the wings should be in the whole world knows as much as you do about aeroplane. Thank you.

And Moon Shadow signed it with the sounds of his name spelled out in demon letter. Moon Shadow wrote several drafts of it and then copied it out in the fine, elegant hand Miss Whitlaw had taught him. But after six months, they could not get the letter in reply. They went to check about it and they discovered there were no any Wright brothers who were the aeronauts. They were disappointed about it. Then Windrider gave up making aeroplane. And he continued to make the kite for his job. After about two hundred years later, There were two people called Wright brothers invented the aeroplane but Windrider could not ask them how to make it because in that time, Windrider, Moon Shadow and fat Miss Whitlaw had died already.

Response letter to the SCMP (24-4-2008 Thursday) (28-4-2008 Monday)

Small- class teaching may help some schools continue to work in the future. The teachers will not lost their jobs. And every child can go to school. But, no on ask the students what they want. If there are small- class teaching, some students may learn more attention but some may no. Some may not like this learning policy. So they may hate to learn in school. It is a serous problem in Hong Kong.

If I need to learn in a small- class teaching, I will be happy because I can learn more clearly. In some lesson, there are many students talking that the voice of the teachers are covered up by the noise of the students. I can not listen to the teachers.

I think the classes are reduces from 40 to 20 is better than the Education Bureau’s definition of a small class which the classes are reduced from 40 to 38.

In small- class teaching, it can improve the education quality. Actually, some elite schools can improve the education quality of their students but they may earn less money in the small- class teaching.

History Homework(Lesson 11 on 16-4-2008)(22-4-2008 Tuesdy)

In Hong Kong, there are many courses, which can encourage the five concepts. They are imaginative, creative, sensitive to society’s needs, breaking from the past, the old ways, prescient/ foresight. In Methodist College, we can learn them in our art lesson, music lesson and liberal studies lesson. They are very useful for us to find our job in the further. But I don’t think after the Hong Kong people learnt that five concepts, they would be an inventor.

I think Hong Kong is not a good place for development of inventors. In Hong Kong, people only attach importance to their money and their living quality but not invention. They don’t think invention is important than their money. In this general likes, even their is a good inventor, he would not want to develop in Hong Kong.

History Homework(Lesson 10 on 9-4-2008)(15-4-2008 Tuesday)

I think Hong Kong needs the Industrial Revolution. In Hong Kong, commercial development is lively. Every body works around the commerce each day. Bu there is not a good industrial development in Hong Kong. You can not hear at less two news which is about Hong Kong industrial. People should attach more importance to it. Industry both of them way develops lively in the future.

I think that a good inventor might have five basic qualities, good observation because he needs to observe what that people need so the machine he makes can be useful; great originality because it can help him to make a creative machine and it can attract the customers to buy it and use it; have rich money to support him to make the machines because he may need to make many machines and only one is success; hard working because he can not give up halfway; have a clear mind because in the process of making machine, he may need to analyze many things such as ‘Is this way ok?’ and ‘Is that way ok?’. I think if the inventor has all this five basic qualities, he will be a good famous inventor.

History Homework(Lesson 9 on 2-4-2008)(7-4-2008 Monday)(compare, contrast and conclude, either: Feudalism, the three estates and Hong Kong society)

France was a feudal country with three estates or classes. The First Estate: Clergy, The Second Estate: Nobles and The Third Estate: Commoners.

The First Estate: Clergy and The Second Estate: nobles numbering only about 2% of the population, they owned most of the land in France. They held most of the government posts, but they did not have to pay taxes or serve in the army. The Third Estate: Commoners like middle class and peasants numbering more than 95% of the population, they paid heavy taxes, had to serve in the army, did all kinds of labouring work, but had no rights or say in the government.

This social inequality makes the middle class people such as lawyers, doctors, bankers, teachers, trader who were educated most discontented. It was an important factor that led to the French Revolution.

In Hong Kong Government Structure, it is fair in any way. Every people would have his power in this government. And how much value they give to the government they can receive the same value of the power. But although a person has a large power in this government, he also needs to follow The Basic Law in Hong Kong as same as the other Hong Kong people.

In Hong Kong, there are seven estates. The First Estate: The Base Law, The Second Estate: The Chief Executive, The Third Estate: Executive Council, The Fourth Estate: The Administration, The Fifth Estate: The Legislative Council, The Sixth Estate: District Council, The Seventh Estate: The Judiciary.

Every population in Hong Kong needs to pay the same percentage of taxes. So that it would not appear the social inequality in Hong Kong.

The three estates like Hong Kong society, they also need to give taxes, need to serve for the government but they was unfair. In the three estates, the third estate needs to hard to work for their life but the first and second estates could get a preferential treatment. They were just opposing with the third estate. They can enjoy their life without to do anything. Compare with these, Hong Kong society is just opposing with the three estates. Every population needs to work for their life and the society. They can receive the power they should have. It would not be more or less. Although he is the Chief Executive in Hong Kong, the power he receive would not be more than that he should receive.

History Homework(Lesson 7 on 12-3-2008)(17-3-2008 Monday)(The differences and similarities in the economic and political of 13 colonies and Hong Kong)

Although the 13 colonies are the place in America and the Hong Kong colony is a place in Asia. But they also have the similarities and the differences in the economic and political.

In the economic of the 13 colonies, Britain got cheap raw materials and a big market for her goods from them. And Britain did not let the 13 colonies produce things that would compete with their goods. But in Hong Kong, Britain let many important companies to build in and some of them are still working now, such as Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Hong Kong Electric Company. They make Hong Kong greatly different in economic.

In the political of the 13 colonies, Britain keep having war and have the army so that they need to have a large money to support it. Then Britain’s attempt to tax the 13 Colonies. But in Hong Kong, Britain do not attempt to tax us and the role of Hong Kong as a political safe haven for Chinese political refugees further cemented its status, and few serious attempts to revert its ownership were launched in the early 1900s.

Although the 13 colonies and Hong Kong are the colony of Britain and they are controlled by Britain too but we can see that Hong Kong has more freedom than the 13 colonies and the people of the 13 colonies are more discontented than the Hong Kong people.

First, the 13 colonies feared that Britain would rule them with absolute power and they discontented with British Rule.

Next, the colonists were not happy with Britain’s economic policy.

In the course, we learnt he feature and eating habit of different animals. After we finished the course, we played the games in group again. My group went to the high land on the hill and ate the lunch there. Then, they played many games but Sunny and I scared to play them so we always stayed there and looked after their bags and coats. In that time, I scared but now, I want to play the games in next time. At last, we had a course about dolphin. Then we left the Ocean Park and came back to our school. Although I did not play many games this time but I was glad. It was an exciting and useful experience.

English project about the problem in Yau Ma Tei(beggar)(25-2-2008)(Monday)

This project is about the problem in Yau Ma Tei. Our group chose beggar for our topic. And we need to interview with a Yau Ma Tei person for our project.

On the 23 rd of February, Samuela, Nathania and I started to do our project in Yau Ma Tei. We went to interview the beggar who lives under the bridge in Yau Ma Tei. When we were standing there, we were so afraid that talking to a woman who likes a witch. So we chose to go to Henry.G Leung Yau Ma Tei Community Centre first. We go there because we know that Henry.G Leung Yau Ma Tei Community Centre will open a hall for the homeless people and beggars to stay there when there is a typhoon. We could not find any good information in there but lucky we know that The Salvation Army will help the homeless people and beggars by a worker in Henry.G Leung Yau Ma Tei Community Centre. We went to The Salvation Army for get some information. The worker in there told us if we wanted to do interview with anyone in there, we must make an appointment. But the day as fast for us to make an appointment is on the 25th of February. So we decided to go back to the beggar who lives under the bridge. But when we were standing there, we still were so afraid. So we left there and went to the tunnel, which has a beggar works inside there. We ask him ‘Can we do an interview with you?’ He answered ‘No.’ and shook his head and hands. I think he is more politely than he will be if we are adults. I could feel that he was angry in that moment. In the last, we went back to the beggar who lives under the bridge. Samuela bravely asked the old lady to have an interview with us. The woman answered ‘OK!’ And the conversations were like these:

How long have you been here?
About ten years.
Do you have house?
Yes, I have. But I don't like there.
They prejudice you?
How did they prejudice you?
They didn't let me go there and they stared at me, and made me felt unbearable.
Do you think Hong Kong people are kind?
Some of them are good, but some of them are nasty
How people did bad things to you?
They kept away from me.
Did they expel you?
No, they didn't. We didn’t interflow each other.
How did the people be nice to you?
They cared to me.
Had they ever give food to you?
Sometimes they had.
Why do you think that begging in Yau Ma Tei is better than other places?
It is because I worked near here in the past. And it is convenient.
Where is your house?
It is far away from here.
Is there any furniture in your home?
Yes, there is some of furniture.
Do you always go back home?
If we need that thing, we will go back home to take them away.
You seldom go back home, don't you?
Yes, I do.
How did you get the daily things?
Sometimes people gave them to me. Sometimes I bought by myself.
Where did the money come from?
The money came from the government.
They sent volunteer to give it to me.
What are the uses of those boxes?
They are used for containing things.
They aren't used for selling, are they?
Some boxes are, but some of them aren't.
You picked up the boxes by yourself, didn’t you?
Yes, I did.
How about your dog? Did anyone give you that dog?
Someone gave it to me.
In the past, I fostered Dalmatians. But it died.
So I fostered this dog now.

I had seen that Dalmatians when I was studying in the Methodist School but after a few years ago, I have not seen it again. But now, I know the reason why. And I know a lot of things about her and her son. She is about seventy years old, and her son is about forty years old. They I also learnt that the homeless people and beggars are not as bad as we think. They are kind. We should be fair to them. And should not be discrimination to them. This also is the problem in Yau Ma Tei.

I think this time we have not get enough information from one beggar. We should interview with more than four homeless people and beggars in the next time.

History Homework (Lesson 3 on 30-1-2008) (19-2-2008)(Tuesday)

Hello. My name is Leda Cavalla. I was born and lived in Vinci in Florence in Italy. I was born in1482 the eighteenth of January and died in 1562 the eleventh of February. I was a famous artist on Renaissance. My father was Leonardo de Vinci and my mother was Monee Lisa.

I had a beautiful childhood. When I was 16 years old, my father was drawing one of his paintings. Soon, he sick with influenza but he only finished around 25% of his painting. I liked drawing very much. I drew a lot of painting and put them in my room.

One day, my father saw my painting and discovered I painted it well. So he gave his unfinished painting to me. And he guided me to paint it. The painting is called ‘The Supper in this morning’ It was a famous masterpiece of my paintings during my lifetime. And the other one was ‘The smile of my mother’

I always had some idea, which transcended the other. So I always used my idea to paint my painting. I was a famous Renaissance artist because I had many masterpieces. You can find my history in every history book which about the Renaissance.

History Homework (Lesson 2 on 23-1-2008) (29-1-2008) (Tuesday)

Michelangelo was an example of Renaissance men. It can prove it from his work. He made many famous painting. One of it is the dome of St. Peter’s cathedral in Rome. This had a great influence on the architectural style of builders in later times.

And the other example is Leonardo da Vinci. He made two masterpieces during his lifetime. One of it is ‘The Mona Lisa’. In his painting, he developed a new painting style. Artists of his time usually used a white background three-dimensional effect in the painting. As a result, the chief object looked sharper and more realistic. This new painting style influenced the artists at the time and in later time.

The Renaissance men have the new style in their painting. The topic of their paint is open. And the artists showed their thought of themselves and the society in their painting. But the artists in Meddle Ages painted their painting almost around the religion in their society.

Script (Yau Ma Tei Theatre) (22-1-2008) (Tuesday)

Script

Bear: Hi, Teddy! Ai~ what is this building in this photo?
Teddy: This building is The Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
Bear: The Yau Ma Tei Theatre? Is it in Yau Ma Tei?
Teddy: Yes, of course it is in Yau Ma Tei!
Bear: Oh! The building looks really old and small.
Teddy: Yes, you’re right. It’s very aged.
Bear: Then, how old is it?
Teddy: It is eighty-two years old.
Bear: Wow! It is older than me!
Teddy: Do you want to have a visit?
Bear: Yes, of course. I want to visit it!
Teddy: OK! Then, let’s go now.
Teddy & Bear: One! Two! Three!
Teddy: Here is The Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
Bear: Wow! It’s tinier than nowadays’ theatres.
Teddy: Yes! Actually, The Yau Ma Tei Theatre, once the largest theatre
in Kowloon, it is located in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. It is classified as
"Grade II Historic Building". I think it is a very rare building
in Hong Kong.
Bear: Why do you think that it is a rare building?
Teddy: Because The Yau Ma Tei Theatre is the only remaining
pre-World War theatre in Kowloon.
Bear: Oh! I see. Then, let’s have a film inside the theatre!
Teddy: Oh! You can’t have a film even you can’t go inside! Because the theatre
closed on July 31, 1998.
Bear: Oh! It’s a pity. But why it closed? What makes it closed?
Teddy: Because it gradually lost customers to newer theatre in later time.
Bear: I know the reason why it seems dirty. Because nobody used it and no one
clean up it.
Bear: Do you know how many seats inside the theatre? Do you know the free
about the tickets? Do you know will the theatre open again? Do you know
can we eat and drink inside? Do you know more information about the
theatre?
Teddy: Oh! You have too many questions to ask me. I am confused!

History Homework (Lesson 1 on 16-1-2008) (The hierarchy of medieval society and Hong Kong) (22-1-2008)(Tuesday)

Our power structure fundamentally is the same with the medieval society. We still have a hierarchy. But our hierarchy divides more detail. They must obey to the law like the medieval society and there are fairer to everyone than the medieval society.

The Chief Executive(the king in the Medieval society) is the head of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The second are the secretaries of Departments(the knights in the Medieval society):
Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang Ying-yen, GBS, JP,
Financial Secretary, Mr John Tsang Chun-wah, JP,
Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, JP.
And the last is Citizens (the peasants in the Medieval society) are in the lowest class of the power structure. But they also can give suggestion to the government.

Dragonwings(18-1-2008)

At the age of eight, Moon Shadow is sent to live in a strange land, halfway across the world, with the father he has never met. What do you think it would feel like to abandon everything familiar for the completely unknown? Can you share a similar experience?

I will feel scare and lone. I will want to go home. May be I will be crazy.
I have a similar experience. It was happened in a supermarket when I was small. In that time I came to a supermarket with my mother, which is the first time I go there. I still remembered that I walked in front of my mother but after a few second, I turned around my head but I did not see my mother. And I could not find her. Then I cried but soon my mother found me and I stopped crying. In the time of I lost my mother, I felt scare and lone but now I have a mobile phone so I will not scare.
